How to become CBAP Certified
CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional) certification is a level three professional certification for individuals with extensive business analysis experience which is provided by the IIBA Certifcation Course. The Certification acknowledges business analysts with 5+ years of experience in the business analysis field.
The CBAP Certification requires a comprehensive training program and an extensive preparation for the examination. Following are the steps and process that will help you achieve the certification and succeed.
- Confirm Business Analysis experience: CBAP requires 5 years (7,500 hours) of Business Analysis experience over the last ten years. You must also demonstrate 900 hours of experience across at least four of the six knowledge areas (BABOK). It is also required to obtain a minimum of 35 hours of Professional Development in the past four years in Business Analysis field.
- Earn professional development hours (PDs): You must have 35 documented professional development hours to be eligible for the certification. Certain training courses and conferences also qualify for credential hours.
- Prepare and submit CBAP Application: Minimum educational requirements and two references are also required in addition to work experience and professional development hours. Applications are submitted to IIBA and a procedure is followed.
- Get familiar with the BABOK Guide: Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) is considered to be the most important study material while preparing for the CBAP Certification. It is recommended to understand and go through all the subject areas and concepts that are covered in the examination.
- Schedule and clear CBAP Certification: Schedule a certification 2-3 months post the application’s approval as it gives you sufficient time to prepare for the certification.
